10.5% annual return for Main Endowment Pool; 8.8% for Staff Pension Plan

UBC Investment Management (UBCIM) released its FY25-26 Annual Report today, delivering strong performance over the past 12 months on behalf of the funds we manage: the University of British Columbia Endowment, the UBC Staff Pension Plan and UBC’s Long-Term Liquidity Pool.

“UBCIM is more committed than ever to ensuring our investment strategies, and the processes by which we put them into action, are built to withstand volatility and deliver sustainable long-term value,” says UBC Investment Management President and CEO Dawn Jia. “Our investment horizon is a long one, and the approach we have put in place is designed to deliver strong results like those seen over the past year, and well into the future.”

FY25-26 highlights include:

  • One year investment returns totalled $582M
  • 10-year total Endowment distributions of $874M
  • UBC’s Main Endowment Pool generated returns of 10.5% over the past year (annualized returns of 9.8% over the past five years)
  • UBC’s Staff Pension Plan generated returns of 8.8% (6.7% five-year annualized) and has distributed $592M to beneficiaries over 10-years

FY25-26 also saw UBC Investment Management advance its Responsible Investing strategy to help both UBC and the Staff Pension Plan advance their own environmental and human rights objectives. Highlights include:

  • As of December 31, 2025, the Endowment fund’s carbon footprint was 70% lower than the baseline levels set in 2019, and its carbon intensity 64% lower
  • Carbon footprint and intensity measures for the UBC Staff Pension Plan decreased by 52% and 51% respectively over the same period
  • Using our proprietary Manager Assessment framework, our team conducted 40 manager reviews to assess the ESG performance of each external manager we work with on behalf of the funds we manage, including assessing managers’ human rights integration with the help of PRI technical guidance
  • With oversight from the Responsible Investing Working Group, UBCIM developed a comprehensive social risk framework that provides a broad structure for managing social risks in the portfolio, particularly those related to human rights
