FUNDS WE
MANAGE
UBC Investment Management is currently responsible for approximately $5.6 billion in funds under management (March 31, 2022), held primarily in the following three funds:
UBC ENDOWMENT FUND
The UBC Endowment Fund benefits from more than a century of philanthropic giving by donors as well as proceeds from the sale of endowment land leases that support the university’s activities in perpetuity. Generous contributions from alumni, students and benefactors are prudently invested over the years, generating an important source of revenue for the university that supports the highest standards of research, teaching and student aid. Income from the endowment provides stability in difficult economic times and periods of rapid growth.
UBC STAFF PENSION PLAN
The UBC Staff Pension Plan (SPP) is a target-benefit pension plan that provides retirement, termination and death benefits for eligible staff of UBC and related employers. The Plan is funded by fixed contributions from both the university and Plan members. We invest the Plan’s funds in accordance with the long-term policy asset mix to provide stable lifetime retirement pensions — a critical provision for families we work to protect and grow.
UBC WORKING CAPITAL FUND
The UBC Working Capital Fund consists of monies from the reserves of the working capital pool of the university. These may include proceeds from provincial operating grants, tuition, private, corporate and government research grants, operating income and funds for capital projects. It is structured as a fixed income portfolio with investments in money market securities, short-term bonds and mortgages.
